Embryo transfer

The embryo transfer is a very easy operation, which lasts about 5 minutes. It is absolutely painless and is done without any anaesthesia.

The embryos are put in the laboratory in some nutrient liquid, if necessary a special medium like embryoGlue/UTMis pulled in with a shot into the front area of the transfer catheter. Then the doctor establishes the catheter trough the orifice of the uterus and into the womb cave. Afterwards the embryos are flushed into the womb.

The volume of the flushed liquid is very small: about 20-30 mikes (millionth part litre)

In Germany maximum 3 embryos are allowed to be transferred into the womb
(see Law for Protection of Embryos), to prevent high risk pregnancies with more than three children.
